Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann has been given Z-plus security cover, according to an NDTV report. The 49-year-old Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader will be secured by the VIP protection squad of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), official sources told PTI.
The top-category security cover, apart from the Punjab Police protection, will secure the chief minister’s house and immediate family members too, they said.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) recently accorded the sanction for this, the sources said. It will be provided to Mann all across India.
The development comes in the wake of Khalistani activities by supporters of Amritpal Singh.
Z-Plus security cover is given to the most prominent personalities in India. It includes a 55-person entourage, usually consisting of 10 NSG commandos, while the rest is from civil police. All commandos are fully trained in unarmed combat and martial arts.
